Worship Song: "New Wine" by Hillsong Worship
Reading: Matthew 6:16-18 (NLT)
Devotional: Fasting is a spiritual discipline that shifts our focus from the physical to the spiritual. Jesus tells us that fasting should not be done for show but as a private act of devotion to God. Through fasting, we deny ourselves to seek Him more deeply against anything that competes for our attention that takes us away from His. When we fast, we create space to hear from God and grow spiritually.
Reflection:
Have you ever fasted for spiritual reasons? If not, what has held you back?
What distractions can you temporarily set aside to focus more on God?
3-Step Application:
Choose something to fast from for the next 24 hours (food, social media, entertainment, etc.).
Use the time you would spend on that activity to pray and read scripture.
Reflect on how the fast impacted your focus on God and write down any insights.
Closing Prayer: "Lord, as I fast, help me to set my heart on You. Remove distractions and deepen my hunger for Your presence. Teach me to rely on Your strength and grow closer to You through this discipline. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
